Top 5 through five weeks: Big 12 Conference

1 - Shedeur Sanders (Colorado Buffaloes)

Shedeur Sanders has been a standout performer for the Colorado Buffs through 5 weeks of play, amassing an impressive 1,630 passing yards that ranks him #6 in the nation. Along with 14 touchdown passes, that has him tied for 4th nationally, showcasing his ability to find the end zone precisely. His completion percentage also places him in the top 15, further highlighting his efficiency as a quarterback.  In recent weeks, Sanders led the Buffs to impressive back-to-back victories against Baylor and UCF, solidifying his status as one of college football’s top QBs.


2 - Josh Hoover (TCU Horned Frogs)

Josh Hoover is lighting up the field for TCU this season, with an impressive 1,774 passing yards that rank him #3 in the nation. He’s thrown 14 touchdown passes, tying him for 4th along with our #1 ranked Big 12 QB, and his accuracy keeps him in the top 20 for completion percentage. Hoover has consistently shown his ability to be a gunslinger, surpassing 350 yards in 4 out of 5 games, including a standout 400-yard performance in a narrow loss to UCF. 


3 - Avery Johnson (Kansas State Wildcats)

Avery Johnson is making a name for himself at K-State, coming off his best statistical game where he threw for 259 yards and accounted for 5 total touchdowns. With 879 passing yards this season, what truly sets him apart is his dynamic rushing ability, amassing 321 yards on the ground. Johnson’s versatility is on full display, contributing to a total of 11 touchdowns. He has led his team to impressive victories against ranked opponents, including Arizona and Oklahoma State. As he continues to excel, Johnson is proving to be a key player in K-State’s success this season.


4 - Jake Retzlaff (BYU Cougars)

Jake Retzlaff is quickly becoming a sleeper quarterback in the Big 12, leading BYU to an impressive 5-0 start this season. With 1,206 passing yards and 11 touchdown passes, along with a rushing touchdown, he’s proving to be an integral part to the BYU rebuild. Supported by a talented defense, Retzlaff's role is to steer the offense effectively. He’s already guided the Cougars to impressive back-to-back victories over ranked opponents Kansas State and Baylor in Weeks 4 and 5. As he continues to find his rhythm, Retzlaff is a player to watch as BYU aims for a standout season.


5 - Brendan Sorsby (Cincinnati Bearcats)

Brendan Sorsby is quietly establishing himself as one of the top sophomore quarterbacks in the nation. Fresh off a season-high 426 passing yards, he currently sits with 1,481 passing yards, ranking 8th nationally. With 12 touchdown passes tied for 6th in the country, his ability to find the end zone is impressive, especially considering he’s thrown only 1 interception. Sorsby’s efficiency and poise in the pocket make him a rising star to watch as he continues to lead Cincinnati’s offense this season.
