Ranking Every NFL Team on the Brightest Futures

Writer's picture: ThatManCheThatManChe

The NFL season came to an end once again with the Philadelphia Eagles climbing to the top mountain. In this article I will rank every NFL team from 1-32 on the brightest futures they have and just on who has the highest chances to win championships and winning playoff games within the next 3–5 seasons.

  1. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles have just won the SB and won’t be going away anytime soon. They have a very young and elite defense along with a young QB. Staying away from the roster, they have a young head coach who has proved what he can do this season. The biggest thing about the Eagles being number 1 on this list is Howie Roseman. Whatever team has him as their president/general manager will always be high on this list. He is the best executive in the NFL right now, and he isn’t going anywhere. The Eagles are the perfectly built franchise for winning now and in the future.

2. Buffalo Bills

The Bills might not have the best roster, but these past 2 seasons, they have worked to rebuild it. They have a nice pool of young talent and an elite QB in his prime. The 2nd best offensive line in football behind the Eagles also. The Bills may be cursed, who knows, but expect them to continue to be in the playoffs every season for the next 3–4 years, baring a Josh Allen injury early on in the season.

3. Cincinnati Bengals

Even though the Bengals have missed the playoffs in the last 2 seasons, they have something that keeps them in the top 3 on this list. Joe Burrow put up MVP numbers this past season, and so did Ja’Marr Chase. The defense is the main issue, but I expect that to get somewhat fixed this off-season. I'm not saying they will be a top unit, but they will be average at minimum. The one thing that keeps them so high is Burrow. We’ve seen what he can do in the playoffs and whenever your team has him at QB, that team will be high on a list like that.

4. Commanders

The Commanders are also a team that I put higher than a lot of people. You see the thing about the Commanders is they don’t have a good roster whatsoever and have so many issues on both sides of the ball. The thing is, though, that I’d say within the next couple of drafts, I expect them to build that roster up and fill in those missing pieces. This is a team that made the conference championship with a rookie QB and 1st year staff. This team probably isn’t going anywhere and has the potential to build a powerhouse roster within the next few seasons.

5. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens, as of now, might be my pick to win the SB next season. After next season, though, there will be some big questions about that aging roster. Lamar will always have the Ravens pretty high on a list like this, but next season feels like next season, and the 1 after that is SB or bust, and if not, they will probably trade Lamar and go into a rebuild, or that’s what they should do, in my opinion.

6. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs might have the best quarterback in football, but they have as many roster questions as any team does in the NFL. The Chiefs have some pivotal free agents this offseason and a lot of aging players, the biggest one being Travis Kelce and all the other weapons on that offense. Other than Worthy, they don’t have any long-term weapons and playmakers on that offense. Andy Reid also doesn’t have a lot of time left as head coach. His time could be coming to an end in the coming years. The Chiefs will always be in the playoffs with Mahomes as QB, but their chances of winning championships are fading, as we say.

7. Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have a win now roster but had an embarrassing post-season loss this past season. They do have a lot of nice young talent and Brad Holmes always does a nice job with the draft, so I expect the young talent to keep coming in. Losing both elite coordinators is tough to replace sometimes. Expect Jahmyr Gibbs to become a top 3 RB in the NFL next season and the Lions to be a run-heavy team. With Dan Campbell as HC, the Lions won’t be going away anytime soon and will always be a playoff team, in my opinion, for the next 5 years at the minimum.

8. Houston Texans

The Texans have a unique situation, in my opinion. A young HC QB and overall some great talent on that roster. Some vibes I get from the Texans and Demeco Ryans are Mike Tomlin/Steeler vibes. I expect the Texans to always be a playoff team and rarely finish under .500 within the next 5–10 years, probably especially in the easiest division in the NFL. The thing is the Texans' ability to go beyond that and make a deep playoff run. We've seen them get past that wildcard round with no issues, but the past 2 seasons in the divisional they have struggled. The Texans are an interesting franchise to watch within the coming years and to see if they can get over that hump.

9. Denver Broncos

The Broncos are in a similar position to the Commanders; they have a great head coach and a young QB. Also, a similar thing to the Broncos and Commanders is, let’s see Denver develop that roster through the draft within these next 2–3 seasons because, like the commanders, they have underwhelming talent on that roster especially on the offensive side of the ball. Also, having the DPOY helps keep you high on this list. Expect Denver to always be competing in the playoffs within the coming seasons.

10. Los Angeles Rams

The Rams, in my opinion, are going through a short rebuild yet still winning games and making the playoffs. There might be some uncertainty at the QB and offensive line, but the 2 things that keep them high on this list is Sean Mcvay, a top 3 coach in the NFL, and that young defense that got so much better as the season went on. If the Rams can get a young QB in this draft, maybe, and develop him for the next couple of seasons under McVay, he could become an elite QB and the Rams would be right back to winning Super Bowls.

11. Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings might also have some uncertainty at quarterback, but they simply have a very talented roster that keeps them high on this list. Jefferson and Addison are elite, and they have some nice pieces on that defense. The biggest thing is coaching KOC, and Brian Flores are some of the best in the NFL at their jobs and will continue to be. If the Vikings make the right decision at quarterback this offseason, they will be a winning franchise for years to come.

12. Chicago Bears

The Bears have a nice roster and hired some great coaches this offseason throughout the whole staff, not just the Head Coach. The biggest thing for them is Caleb Williams, though. Caleb had an alright season as a rookie but went through 3 Offensive coordinators and 2 head coaches. We know he had talent, but we saw some of that translate to wins in week 18 with a big win at Green Bay. A very talented defense is also behind him. The biggest issue with the Bears is the offensive line. If the Poles can fix that people this offseason, with the cap space they have and the 10th overall pick, they could be in a position to finally start winning games and making the playoffs once again.

13. Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh might be stuck in a mediocre state, but people can’t take that for granted, especially Steeler fans. It could be worse, like the Jets, who haven’t made the playoffs in over 15 years. The Steelers might not have a roster that could win the Super Bowl next season, but I could see them making a nice playoff run if everything clicked. Also, a solid coach in Mike Tomlin, who will never have them at the bottom of the league and always have them over .500. If they can get the QB right this offseason and have a nice draft, they will be set to make the playoffs again next season and maybe even win a playoff game or two.

14. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers' future seems dull, to be honest. A lot of veteran players and a QB who probably will not be a superstar. Just because the 49ers are so low on this list doesn’t mean they can’t still win a Super Bowl next season. I believe they have the next season and the one after, and after that, if they cannot win a Super Bowl, a rebuild will be underway. Even if they were to win an SB, they would probably have to go through a small rebuild. The clock is ticking for Kyle Shannhan and the 49ers. They don’t have too much time left, so the SB window is closing soon.

15. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers have a very good head coach who will always have them playing winning football. The only reason they are not higher on this list is due to Justin Herbert. Herbert, in my opinion, will not be able to take his game to the next level in his career. He will be a solid QB for years to come, but I can never see him becoming a superstar at this point, and he could be what holds the Chargers back. Herbert doesn’t have much time left to prove he can win within the next 2 seasons. If he and the Chargers don’t win a playoff game, he could be out of LA, and they would need to start fresh at the quarterback position.

16. Green Bay Packers

The Packers might be in a similar position to the Chargers, a solid head coach but a quarterback that holds them back. The thing that puts the Packers behind the Chargers, though, is the roster talent. The Chargers have some great players, and so do the Packers, but the Chargers have a better WR room and defense, in my opinion. The Packers coach Matt Lefleur might be a great head coach too, but he is near thin ice in Green Bay. A solid season with a playoff win is a must next season for the Packers if they don’t want major changes to occur.

17. New England Patriots

New England has had an underrated off-season so far. Hiring a great Head Coach and a proven Offensive Coordinator. Drake Maye will determine how good the Patriots do, though. The young QB had some elite flashes this past year and will be the guy going into 2025. Also, with the 2nd Overall pick and already having a franchise QB, there are many options on the table for New England, which puts them in a position for Success along with some of the most cap space in the NFL this offseason. If the Patriots can have a great offseason, they will be in a position to have some solid success in the coming years.

18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers have a win-now roster. The thing is that the roster probably cannot win an SB with the roster they have right now. The Buccaneers' best shot was this season, I believe, and they came up short in the Wild Card. They have a lot of talent on the roster and can easily win the NFC South once again next season and maybe a playoff game, but with a mediocre QB and an HC who simply isn’t good add on an aging roster also. The Buccaneers may be in for a major rebuild within the next 2–3 years.

19. New York Jets

The New York Jets obviously have some major issues, like at quarterback and the offensive line. The one thing the Jets do have is some great talent on that roster. A new GM and HC could be all this team needs to get into the NFL playoffs next season. With Rodgers more likely not returning, they will need to figure out who will be the quarterback. Another top 10 pick is great for them to add another great player on that roster. It will be interesting to see how that roster fills outgoing into next season.

20. Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders are higher up on this list than other people would have them. In my opinion, the Raiders had the best GM hire this off-season and the second-best HC hire. They hold the 6th pick in this year's draft with a lot of cap space also. The talent on the roster isn’t that good, but that could easily change this off-season. Also, with a solid HC and GM now, the Raiders could find themselves back in the playoffs here soon. The Tuck Rule curse has haunted them for the past 2 decades, but hopefully, the new group of people can change that in the coming years.

21. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have a good amount of talent on the roster. It is all the other things that make them lower on this list. Raheem Morris isn’t a good head coach; it’s that simple, and they also have a Cap mess with Kirk Cousins being QB2 going into next season. The defense is older, too and is already pretty bad. The bright spot is the offense and Michael Penix. That offense has a great amount of potential to thrive in the coming seasons.

22. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are in a dull spot right now. Geno Smith will probably be the QB going into next season, which isn’t a horrible thing, but everyone can admit he is not a QB who can lead a team to a playoff win; the ceiling with him is a Wild Card berth. They have a lot of nice young talent on both sides of the ball, but the offensive line is also a major issue. They are very inconsistent with the run game, and you can’t rely on Geno to carry you to win games. It will be interesting to see the future at QB with this team and to see what direction they will go in the coming seasons.

23. Carolina Panthers

The Panthers were in a horrible position after the trade with the Bears a few years back. They fired their head coach, and Bryce Young looked like a bust right out of the gate. That all changed as this season went on, and Bryce Young looked like one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, and his offense looked like one of the best units in the NFL toward the end of the season. The roster doesn’t have too much talent and is pretty bad defensively, but Bryce Young and HC Dave Canales keep them from being at the bottom of this list.

24. Tennessee Titans

The Titans might also have a kind of bleak-looking future, but they hold the Number 1 overall pick in this year's draft, and that’s what keeps them inside the top 25 on this list. A couple of other solid things the Titans have is a nice young offensive line and an elite pass-rushing player in Jeffery Simmons. A new GM and young HC in Brian Callahan will look to continue to build this team.

25. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are a mess right now, it seems. The coaching issues these past 2 years and the way Jerry Jones handled them are one of the main reasons they are this low. Jones has made some bad decisions with contract holdouts and deciding who to hire as HC. The defense had its issues last season, also being one of the worst statistical units in the NFL. The roster isn’t getting any younger, and Dak Prescott probably isn’t a QB that can win you a Super Bowl.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have plenty of issues with roster construction, offensive Line and QB potentially. The Jaguars' defense doesn’t have much talent at all and needs to reconstruct that defense here very soon. Trevor Lawrence is very inconsistent and hasn’t shown enough flashes to be the long-term answer at quarterback. An aging offensive Line tops off this group. The Jaguars may need to go through a small rebuild and hope that Trevor Lawrence can be the quarterback of the future.

27. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals are a team that could potentially make the playoffs next season, but that is probably the ceiling. The Cardinals have plenty of problems a team that is very mediocre in the trenches on both sides of the ball, limited talent defensively, and an inconsistent QB. All along with an HC and GM who haven’t done that well yet. The Cardinals have a lot to prove in 2025, and if they come up short of expectations, a great number of changes will unfold.

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

28. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have a major issue, and it’s the GM position. Chris Ballard hasn’t done a solid job at all and should have been fired after this season. The only bright spots are that offense and Anthony Richardson. The defense has had a great coaching issue and talent issue, and that won’t be a fix overnight. Unless Anthony Richardson takes over this next season, the Colts will be a team that will have some major decisions to make after next season.

29. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are in a very similar situation to the Colts and Cardinals. A team that has playoff potential but not championship potential. The Dolphins are another team who have a GM who doesn’t deserve the job. Chris Grier has not done that good of a job constructing that roster and also should have been fired after this past season. The Dolphins have a lot of aging players, and the window to win is closing quickly.

30. Cleveland Browns

The Browns are obviously in a bad position, but there are some bright spots. The Watson contract is a mess, and a rebuild will be underway if they can get a good deal for Myles Garrett and, with the 2nd overall pick in this year's draft, they will look to the future. They do have a solid coach, a GM in my opinion, but it’s time they just rebuild the roster and to take accountability for the mess they created with the Watson situation.

31. New Orleans Saints

The Saints are a team that needs to rebuild but will not. Kellen Moore, the new HC, will now take over a tough situation. The Saints probably have the talent to win that division because the competition isn’t good, but they will not be winning an SB anytime soon. They should make a change at GM but won’t and that is what is holding that organization back. What keeps them out of the bottom spot on this list is the talent on that roster is not super bad and has some bright spots.

32. New York Giants

It’s simple: the Giants are a mess. The thing the Giants need is a fresh slate, a change at HC and GM. Daboll is a solid head coach and has proved it, but it’s time for a change. The other thing about the New York Giants is that the roster doesn’t have much talent at all. A few solid defensive players, and Malik Nabers is what they have basically. The Giants are not a team that will win championships shortly and have a lot of work to do to get back to competing for Super Bowls.
