The Minnesota Vikings has agreed to a four-year, $140 million contract extension with star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. It is $110 million guaranteed, with a player like Jefferson, it was always going to cost you.
He is by far now the highest-paid receiver in the NFL, and he has definitely earned this contract. According to ESPN, the next closest receiver with guaranteed money is A.J. Brown, with $84 million. That is almost a $30 million difference. Will be curious what his LSU teammate Ja'Marr Chase will get from the Bengals.
Jefferson said this in the video posted on Instagram, "The time has finally come. The deal I've been waiting for since I was a little kid, Being doubted my whole career. Not being highly recruited. Not being the first receiver off the draft board. This whole journey wasn't easy for me. ... To be given a gift to play football at the highest level, it's a blessing. It's an honor."
Continued, "Y'all set the tone. Y'all set the mood. Y'all set the energy. And I'm definitely excited to set the energy for five more years. ... This is the start of it, but we ain't done yet. Just wait."
Since being a late first-round pick in the 2020 draft, Jefferson has had 392 receptions for 5,899 yards and 30 touchdowns. He averages 98.32 yards per game over his four seasons in the league. Jefferson has also been a three-time pro-bowler and was the 2022 Offensive Player of the Year.
