Cincinnati has landed a massive commitment on the defensive line from Northern Illinois transfer defensive end George Gumbs.
A look at George Gumbs's college career:
The Chicago native was a three-star wide receiver coming out of high school. Gumbs committed to Northern Illinois over Bowling Green and Northern Illinois.
During the 2021 season, Gumbs saw time on special teams in four games. He only played in four games, so he can retain his redshirt. During the 2022 season, he played in eight games as a tight end. He recorded four receptions for 44 yards that season. Gumbs made the switch to defensive end following the 2023 spring practices. During his one season as a defensive end, Gumbs recorded 32 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Cincinnati defensive line coach Walt Stewart had a massive piece of landing Gumbs out of the transfer portal. Gumbs will join Eastern Michigan transfer defensive end Mikah Coleman as a key piece on the defensive line. Those two will join three-star defensive linemen Garrison Butler, Marquaze Parker, and Lendric Barber from the 2024 recruiting class.
