Brendan's Best Bets: Sun Belt Preseason Win Total Bets

A new season of College Football is almost here. With a new season comes an opportunity to have a little extra change in your pocket.

In the coming weeks leading up to kickoff on August 26, I will go from conference to conference sharing my preseason win total bets that are worth putting some coin on.

For this edition of Brendan’s Best Bets, we are taking a look at Sun Belt preseason win totals. Odds are provided by FanDuel Sportsbook.

Appalachian State Over 6.5 Wins (-132)

App State had its worst season since 2013 last fall as the Mountaineers went 6-6. This is a program that consistently wins 9-10 games. This season, they don’t bring back a ton of experience (just 11 returning starters). While the talent is unproven, this is still a team with tons of potential. Nate Noel returns at the running back position and the offensive line should be one of the best in the Sun Belt.

The schedule is pretty favorable for App State. They have winnable games against Gardner-Webb, East Carolina and Wyoming in non-conference play. The Mountaineers draw UL Monroe and Southern Miss out of the west division. This team will compete for a Sun Belt title this season.

Troy Under 8.5 Wins (-148)

Jon Sumrall had an outstanding year one as the head coach at Troy. While I don’t doubt Sumrall, it will be hard to replicate what the Trojans did last season with just 12 starters returning. Troy had five wins by one possession last season. I expect some dropoff in that category which will result in more losses.

The schedule is also one of the most difficult in the conference. The non-conference slate features games at Kansas State, Western Kentucky and at Army. The Trojans will play James Madison out of the east division. I do expect this team to have a winning record, but I think there will be a drop-off in wins.

To recap, here are the bets we are making:

  • Appalachian State Over 6.5 Wins (-132)

  • Troy Under 8.5 Wins (-148)
