A new season of College Football is almost here. With a new season comes an opportunity to have a little extra change in your pocket.
In the coming weeks leading up to kickoff on August 26, I will go from conference to conference sharing my preseason win total bets that are worth putting some coin on.
For this edition of Brendan’s Best Bets, we are taking a look at CUSA and FBS Independents preseason win totals. Odds are provided by FanDuel Sportsbook.
Middle Tennessee Under 6.5 Wins (+116)
Middle Tennessee has been known for their offenses under Rick Stockstill. That will change this season. The offense returns just five starters and they have to find replacements at QB and for their top three pass catchers. A step back is expected on offense and the Blue Raiders will have to lean on the defense this season.
They have a tough non-conference schedule that includes games against Alabama, Missouri and an improved Colorado State team. In conference play, Middle Tennessee will play at Western Kentucky, Liberty, New Mexico State and Sam Houston. This is not an easy schedule for CUSA standards.
Notre Dame Over 8.5 Wins (-120)
After going 8-4 last year with awful losses against Marshall and Stanford, the win total is down at 8.5. Notre Dame should have a great defense, especially in the back seven, in year two of the Marcus Freeman era. The Fighting Irish will also have improved QB play this year with the addition of Sam Hartman.
The schedule is admittedly tough with games against playoff contenders in Ohio State, USC and Clemson. However, Notre Dame can compete with those teams and two of those games are at home. If Notre Dame can win one of those games, they will be in great shape to hit the over.
To recap, here are the bets we are making:
Middle Tennessee Under 6.5 Wins (+116)
Notre Dame Over 8.5 Wins (-120)
