Mikal Harrison-Pilot has been on a lot of radars as of late. Recently he released that his recruitment (which consist of 47 offers and counting) has been narrowed down to 12. Cal is in the running for the #8 ATH and #98 Player in the country according to 247Composite. The 2023 ATH from Temple, TX received an offer from Cal earlier this year and has done a good enough job to make the first cut. The other 11 schools that he is considering are Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, FSU, Houston, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, TCU, Texas, and USC. To check out his recruitment profile you can click here.
What I see from the Tape: Mikal is the jack of all trades. He is a deep ball threat that gets by defenders with ease then has a second gear to leave them in the dust. Any position that requires the ball in his hand he seems to play and excel at. He has good hops to win 50/50 balls and hands to bring it down. Not afraid of contact as he has made his fair share of contested catches. Shown he has a nice touch when he is passing the ball, enough to warrant trick plays in college. Can be a RB as well as he thrives off the Wild Cat formation throwing off the defense with his exceptional speed and field awareness. While playing Safety he closes out nicely and keeps his head up. Has the speed and size you want to catch WRs from making big plays. Truly an ATH that can make an impact anywhere on the field.
Was able to talk to Mikal regarding his decision to narrow it down to 12. He is currently working on planning his Official Visits with his family. No plans as of yet when he will be on campus. He told me the best part about the recruitment process is getting to gel with the coaches and building relationships with them. He cannot wait to visit some of the campus to see how unique each one is. Some of the factors he will be looking at when deciding where to commit will be having a trusting relationship with the staff and that they will always be aware of his best interest as well. As well as a solid business program and being a contender to win championships.
A few things that stand out about Cal to Mikal is the family atmosphere he gets from the coaches, the schemes they will use him in are very pro friendly which will help him excel at the next level and being able to live in the bay is a huge draw. He wanted Cal fans to know that he brings the energy and excitement on the field. When off the field he will be looking to make an impact in the classroom as well as being a positive role model out in the community. But most of all wherever he goes, championships will be in the future.
Final Analysis: Mikal seems to bring a winning mentality and that is exactly what you are wanting in your locker room. Whichever school he commits to will get someone who is dedicated to the classroom, community, and to the field. With his skillset I believe he will be a game changer at the next level being able to play any position as he brings something you cannot teach... Speed and lots of it. His best spot to me will be a hybrid position that seeks out the mismatch on defense. I expect jet sweeps, wild cat, and deep passes as he brings the play making ability that can must see TV. With Cal building something special under Coach Wilcox these are the pieces that need to fall in place for your program to start competing.
