4-Star DB Kenton Kirkland Commits to Florida State

ANOTHER ONE

Florida State received tremendous news as it pertains to the future of their defensive backfield on Monday night as Class of 2023 four-star safety Kenton “KJ” Kirkland from Raines High School in Jacksonville (Fl.) has committed to the Seminoles. The talented defensive back chose Florida State over Kentucky.

WHAT IS FSU GETTING IN KIRKLAND?

The Seminoles are getting a super rangy safety prospect that is listed at 6-foot-1 and 187 pounds. Kirkland has a knack for locating the football and breaking up passes. During his junior season at Raines High School, he had an impressive 12 pass break ups. Quite frankly, if Kirkland adds additional weight to his 6-foot-1 frame, he could become a defensive back prospect that could be used all throughout the defense.

NEVER SAY NEVER IN RECRUITING

Kirkland utilized his last visit on Florida State before making his decision. He visited the Seminole Showcase on July 30th and was planning to announce his intentions in the month of August. Sources around the Seminoles’ program were quite confident that they would be in a great position to land his services.

The crystal ball predictions on 247Sports began to rain in for the Seminoles. As the week went on after those crystal ball predictions were released, they started flip to Kentucky. The Wildcats surprisingly entered the mix as a serious contender in Kirkland’s recruitment.

Just when you thought that Kentucky was about to land the talented four-star prospect, all of Kentucky’s crystal ball predictions flipped back over to the Florida State Seminoles.

WHERE DOES THE 2023 CLASS RANK NOW?

With the Jacksonville (Fl.) native in the fold, the Seminoles now rank No. 20 in the 2023 247Sports Composite rankings.
