Congratulations to Tiumalu for recently receiving an offer from Cal! The 3-star 2023 DE out of La Puente, CA officially received his offer after attending a visit last week. At 6'3 255 he is a good size for a DE but will need to put on some extra muscle when he comes to the next level. He is a dual sport athlete that also competes on the Swim team which should help strengthen his core as well as his lower body in different ways than football can. He has a solid list of offers so far compiling 14 total offers. Some schools of note include FSU, Georgia, Louisville, Michigan, Miami, and Ole Miss.
Watching his Tape the first thing I notice is his sheer will to get into the back field. Stout run stopper as he patiently waits to see where the running back goes then clogs the hole. He is a force that causes fits for the offensive line with his strength and length. Seems to control how and where the oline is blocking him with his ease of shedding the block when he needs to make a tackle. Does a great job of breaking down to tackle the ball handler and does not over commit. Once he gets a hand on you he is strong enough to reel you in and take you down. Shows that even when he misses a tackle that he does not quit on the play, as you seen in film he has a few chase down tackles.
"I was very happy to get an offer from Cal. I wasn’t expecting an offer, but I was hoping for one. I knew Cal has a great football program and that the school is high in academics.". He was on his visit last Friday and had this to say about it "I liked my visit a lot. What stuck out to me were the coaches & staff. They made me feel very welcomed. I speak with Coach Browning often. The coaches and staff at Cal are great.".
So far Tiumalu is still taking trips and enjoying his recruiting process. I asked him what was his favorite part about the recruiting cycle so far? "Meeting Coaches and staff, touring campus & facilities, learning about the school’s football program, etc.". He also wants Cal fans to know that he is a hard worker on and off the field.
Tiumalu has the skill set to be successful at the next level. He brings speed, force, and consistent play to his game. He is a disrupter and has shown even when getting double teamed he finds ways to get in the back field. He would be an excellent piece for Cal to bring in and add to the depth in the trenches. We look forward to his decision in the future.
