With the first day of Senior Bowl practices in the books, several players wasted no time making their mark. From reliable skill players to versatility in the trenches, here are some of the biggest winners from Day 1 for the National and American Team:
National Team
1. Xavier Restrepo (Miami, WR)
Restrepo made tough grabs look effortless, showcasing his excellent concentration and strong hands. His stocky build makes him an ideal candidate for a slot receiver role at the next level. He also displayed sharp cuts and precise route running, further solidifying his status as a reliable pass-catcher.
2. Elijah Arroyo (Miami, TE)
Among the tight ends in attendance, Arroyo stood out as a cut above the rest. His strong hands and impressive body control made him a consistent target in drills. Scouts are now eager to see how his athleticism translates in timed testing, particularly his 40-yard dash.
3. Tez Johnson (Oregon, WR)
While concerns about his weight loomed after measurements, Johnson’s performance on Day 1 quickly put those doubts to rest. He looked like the shiftiest wideout on the field, creating separation with ease. Pairing his speed and route-running, will be his key assets moving forward.
4. Grey Zabel (NDSU, OL)
Zabel proved to be the most versatile lineman on the field, seamlessly plugging into multiple positions across the offensive line without missing a beat. He dominated every rep, showing off his strength, technique, and adaptability. His performance was a major win for small school prospects, proving he can hold his own against top tier competition.
American Team
1. Brashard Smith (SMU, RB)
Smith stood out as the top running back on Day 1, demonstrating remarkable versatility. Not only did he break off one of the best runs of the day, but he also flashed his wide receiver background during individual drills, catching passes effortlessly. If he continues to dominate the backfield in Mobile, Smith’s draft stock could increase easily.
2. Billy Bowman (Oklahoma, DB)
Bowman played with energy and intensity on every snap. His coachability was evident, as he sought feedback after each rep. He capped off his strong day with an interception against Jalen Milroe during 1-on-1 drills, solidifying his presence as a ballhawk in the secondary.
3. Maxwell Hairston (Kentucky, CB)
Hairston addressed key questions about his physicality and press coverage ability with a standout performance on Day 1. He excelled in 1-on-1 reps, playing with aggression and jamming receivers at the line to disrupt their routes.
4. Cam’Ron Jackson (Florida, DL)
At 6’6" and 339 pounds, Jackson moved with a quickness and fluidity that defied his size. He was a disruptive force in team drills and dominated several 1-on-1 reps at nose tackle.
